Play-Based Learning

Children come into the world eager to learn.

At Hilltop Early Learning Center (ELC), our mission is to provide a well-balanced early childhood education for children ages 3 – 5 years old. We support and partner with families to create a school community that is inclusive and nurturing for young learners.

Hilltop ELC implements THE CREATIVE CURRICULUM, developed by Diane Trister Dodge, one of the nation’s most respected leaders in Early Childhood Education. This curriculum starts by creating an environment for young children that is conducive to learning and holds the following four beliefs:

  • Value of Play
  • Importance of Social/Emotional Development
  • Link between Assessment and Curriculum
  • Role of Family in a Child’s Development

Activities are developmentally appropriate, varied to encourage discovery and embrace a multicultural approach. Weekly or bi-weekly themes relate to areas of interest, seasons, holidays, religion, and world cultures. Some themes will be derived directly from the children as emergent curriculum. By combining the teacher’s curriculum and children’s interests, we achieve the goal to educate the whole child and build a solid foundation for learning.

“All three of my children have attended Hilltop Early Learning Center! They are the best of the best! The staff are wonderful – supportive, fun, experienced, loving, and nurturing. The facility is lovely and homey with an enormous outdoor area and playspace! The program itself is top-notch and has set a strong foundation for each of my children, fully preparing them for Kindergarten. Hilltop is like family for us and I enthusiastically recommend them to anyone searching for an early learning program!”
